The Children of Integrity staff and administration have worked continuously to adapt to the changing landscape of education during COVID-19 pandemic.  These are certainly unique times! We are committed and passionate about bringing the best possible prepared and safe environment for our students during this COVID season and to bring about as much normalcy as possible for our young students.  Here are some important facts and updates that we are putting in place for the upcoming 2010-21 school year.

The Provincial Health Authorities and the Ministry of Education have indicated that BC has been very successful in flattening the curve of COVID-19.  In addition, the Provincial Health Authorities have determined that the transmission rates between children are very low.  Therefore, they have determined it is safe for students and staff to return to school in STAGE 1 for September. There are explicit directions to the Schools on how the students will return to school to help ensure the safety of students.  Our school will be following ALL of these directives.

In addition to health and safety provisions in place for STAGE 1,  the following measures will also be required for all schools reopening in September:

  • -A focus on mental health and well-being supports for students returning to school
  • -Full-time instruction for students with disabilities/diverse abilities and students requiring additional support
  • -Options for students with underlying complex medical need

Before your child is able to come to school each day, parents must do the SELF ASSESSMENT for their child.  This will include how they are feeling, where they have been and who they have come in contact with.

Your child MUST NOT come to school if he has COVID-19 like symptoms, even if the symptoms are mild.

Students should only bring with them only the minimal materials that are needed for their day: lunch, water bottle snack, outdoor wear. At this time we are not having students wear ties as part of their uniforms to help stop the spread of germs.

The School respects a teacher’s personal decision regarding the wearing of masks.   Therefore, teachers may choose to wear a mask if they are more comfortable doing so during school time.

The School respects a student’s and parents/guardians personal decisions regarding the wearing of masks.  Therefore, students may choose to wear a mask if they are more comfortable attending class while wearing a mask.  We will however strongly encourage students to wear a mask (brought from home) when they are receiving one-on-one lessons from their teacher, when social distancing is not possible.

Please note, the Provincial Health Authorities have indicated that students are not required to wear masks.

If your child becomes ill during a school day, they will immediately be asked to put on a mask.  Emergency masks will be  provided.  The office staff will assess your child’s condition and potentially contact the parent/guardian for pickup and return home.

Absolutely!  Although teachers will use some alternative methods of teaching some of our curriculum because of COVID, there will still be a strong focus on independence, hands-on learning, simple to complex, child-led education we all are passionate about.  Extra time and care will be put in place to assure the materials, room and schedule all support a clean and safe environment.

If a staff or child attending the facility is a confirmed case of COVID-19 through testing, Public Health will initiate contact tracing to determine how the individual was infected and who else may be at risk of infection.

If there was a potential exposure at the daycare, Public Health will contact the facility to understand who may have been exposed. Public Health will determine what actions should be taken, including when children or staff should self-monitor for symptoms or self-isolate.

If necessary guidance letters will be provided by Public Health to be shared with families and staff.

Public Health aims to respond to facilities within 48 hours of being notified of a positive case. (This timeline may vary if case numbers increase)
